چکیده

The standard setting for competitive analysis of online algorithms assumes that on-line algorithm knows the past (but not future) inputs, and can optimize its performance by \learning" from mistakes of the past. This framework cannot capture some of the real-life online decision-making, which takes place without full knowledge of past and present inputs. Instead, online algorithm only knows a function (or part) of its past decisions and real inputs (which we call the hidden input). A typical example is that of economic \warfare" involving, say, two companies, and a pool of (unknown) customers. In this work, we focus on problem of pricing an interdependent collection of resources , in the absence of knowledge about the following crucial information about the past and future inputs: the customers nancial beneet or prices ooered by the competition, the duration of the contracts, and the future demand for the products. Can we achieve \competitive" proot, i.e., proot comparable to that of an \insider trader", who knows exactly the hidden input (e.g. what the competition is doing) , as well as the future demand ? This paper answers this question in the aarmative, by presenting an \optimally-blindly-competitive" pricing strategy, whose competitive factor grows only logarithmically in price range. As a case study, we apply our methods to the problem of competitive online pricing of telephone networks.

Using and comparing metaheuristic algorithms for optimizing bidding strategy viewpoint of profit maximization of generators

With the formation of the competitive electricity markets in the world, optimization of bidding strategies has become one of the main discussions in studies related to market designing. Market design is challenged by multiple objectives that need to be satisfied. The solution of those multi-objective problems is searched often over the combined strategy space, and thus requires the simultaneous...

Impact of Participants’ Market Power and Transmission Constraints on GenCos’ Nash Equilibrium Point

Unlike perfect competitive markets, in oligopoly electricity markets due to strategic producers and transmission constraints GenCos may increase their own profit through strategic biddings. This paper investigates the problem of developing optimal bidding strategies of GenCos considering participants’ market power and transmission constraints. The problem is modeled as a bi-level optimizati...

A Study of Compact Reserve Pricing Languages

Online advertising allows advertisers to implement fine-tuned targeting of users. While such precise targeting leads to more effective advertising, it introduces challenging multidimensional pricing and bidding problems for publishers and advertisers. In this context, advertisers and publishers need to deal with an exponential number of possibilities. As a result, designing efficient and compac...

Price-takers’ bidding strategies in joint energy and spinning reserve pay-as-bid markets

Strategic bidding in joint energy and spinning reserve markets is a challenging task from the viewpoint of generation companies (GenCos). In this paper, the interaction between energy and spinning reserve markets is modeled considering a joint probability density function for the prices of these markets. Considering pay-as-bid pricing mechanism, the bidding problem is formulated and solved as a...
